Dispatch is a modern magazine fuelled by frontier spirit. We publish deeply reported features from across the world.
Every Dispatch piece shares two core ideals: a commitment to exploring the world’s peripheries, and a promise to take seriously the people and ideas we find there.
In practice, this means we take our time with our reporting. We publish just two articles a week, along with a Sunday newsletter.
Arthur Miller once said that “a good newspaper is a nation talking to itself”. We think he was on to something. To find out more, read our launch statement — or even better, subscribe today.

FAQs
Is this a joke?
Dispatch launched on April 1, 2025. But no, this isn’t a joke. Yet.
What’s with the magpie?
Ok, it’s a bit kitsch. But it’s also a bit of history. In the 1550s, when the first newspapers were being published in Venice, they cost the price of a small copper coin called a gazzetta, a “little magpie”. It seemed like a nice touch. Also pretty cute.
Is this a Substack?
No. Like a Substack publication, Dispatch’s pieces are both published online and delivered to subscribers’ email inboxes in full. But Dispatch runs on an alternative called Ghost — a more independent platform where everything is open-sourced.
If Dispatch cares about “having a conversation”, why don’t you have comments under your articles?
Because online comments are a terrible way to have a conversation. Instead, our readers are encouraged to write letters to Dispatch. These are often included in our subscriber-only Weekend Dispatch newsletter.
I am very rich/generous and would like to donate to Dispatch. Is that possible?
Yes. Click here. And thank you.
What if I can’t afford a subscription?
If you’re a student or unemployed, drop us a line at [email protected] and we’ll sort something out. Ditto if you would like a group subscription for your child's school.
Can I pitch to Dispatch?
Yes! Find out more here.
Can I advertise on Dispatch?
Listen, we’re never going to plaster our pieces with ads. But if you would like to sponsor one or more of our newsletters, let’s chat: [email protected].
I still can't find the magpie! Where is it?
Look harder.
